Partnering for better health

From other networks to academic institutions; and from technical agencies, donors to our governments, we build a nexus of partnerships because we cannot do this work alone.

Our Approach

It takes joint effort and a spirit of partnership to strengthen health systems and advance health services delivery. PHIN has a group of trusted and dedicated partners to identify challenges to tackle while lending their much sought expertise to find solutions to improve health systems and population health in the Pacific including a specific focus on data sharing for improved service delivery. We have joined forces with a diverse network of countries and partners – from large technical agencies, public health institutes and development banks, to emerging entrepreneurs, social enterprises and academes.

By bringing together Pacific, countries and, combining the best of volunteeringism and technical partnership, we can build an independent and sustainable network. Alongside documenting lessons learned from country-led initiatives and sharing field knowledge, PHIN directly supports and contributes to several partner projects in the region as we are in tandem with our partners in creating new useful information, generate unique insights and ultimately strengthen the delivery of quality healthcare services.

We are big proponents of collaboration to improve policies and systems, to share common solutions, to facilitate partner coordination, and to provide training. Ultimately, our common vision is to raise every Pacific country’s capabilities to shape health information system, and in general, digital health across the region. To achieve this, PHIN has several specific target outcomes (Evaluation and renewed vision and strategy 2019-2021) across the region including supporting the integration and interoperability of health information systems and digital health; providing capacity building; and promoting system strengthening and regional cooperation.

Our Work

Community of Practice and Knowledge Sharing

PHIN promotes peer learning, connection building and knowledge sharing. Through thoughtfully curated content, relevant conversations and opportunities to support continuous improvements, we aim to build a resilient community that is distinguished as generating valuable health information – whether it is traditional paper-based systems or information technology-enabled systems, as well as those that embody these systems such as the health specialists, development practitioners and the non-health players.
PHIN continues to support technical agencies in producing a series of materials that countries can use to institutionalize technology and health information system best practices into their work and enlighten their organizations internally on HIS and digital development.
Together with partner agencies, PHIN is hosting open meetings with presentations by/for members on selected health information and digital health topics, and providing a regional forum to discuss accomplishments and lessons learned. In collaboration with technical agencies and donors, PHIN has arranged annual regional meetings. During the pandemic, the network supported online learning and training webinars on digital health tools and health information management.

We are partnering and collaborating with other health information networks and are an active member of Global Digital Health Network. PHIN has a memorandum of understanding with the Asia eHealth Information Network.

Coordination and country-level support for promoting and building sustainable solutions

Our aim is to facilitate opportunities for joint activities and partnerships among members and donors locally and regionally across sectors through better coordination.
By better coordinating the development of health information systems and digital health, all stakeholders involved countries can reduce duplication and ensure that platforms are not only more aligned with priorities but that they strengthen national health strategies.

We promote the need for partners and donors to align around scalable, sustainable, accessible, interoperable, and evidence based digital health tools and practices that meet country priorities. PHIN’s approaches and principles are aligned with WHO guidance on digital health and Principles of Digital Development.

WE BELIEVE

Being Collaborative

Being collaborative means sharing information, strategies and resources across projects, sectors, organizations and supporting each other. Building capacity supports countries to drive change at scale.

Building For Sustainability

Building sustainable programs, platforms and tools – digital or paper – is essential to maintain user and stakeholder support, as well as to make long-term impact.

Design With The User

Countries and people, alongside systems, need to be at the center of problem-solving. PHIN promotes using participatory tools and approaches to create products, services, and experiences for improving health information systems and health service delivery.

Be Data Driven

Collect and use data responsibly according to international norms and standards. No amount of data will lead to accelerated impact if it is not used to inform decision making.
